Hot weather is forecast across central and southern England until at least Thursday 9 July: advice if you are travelling
The Met Office are advising that temperatures today are expected to be above average for the time of year with highs of 28°C anticipated in London and various areas of southern England. As the weekend progresses, temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C and will then remain high well into next week.
Whilst areas across central England - such as the Midlands and East Anglia - are cooler today with highs of around 24°C, from Sunday high temperatures around 30°C will also be widespread.
The forecast weather may cause trains to be disrupted. Heat can cause overhead lines to expand and sag, line-side fires and also rails to buckle.
A visual disruption map video is available.
Advice for customers:
Please check before you travel and allow more time for your journey. Speed restrictions may be in place which can cause delays and cancellations.
Please also carry water with you - you can find water refill stations at all Network Rail managed stations and at some other larger stations.
If you feel unwell at the station, please don't board a train, please seek assistance from station staff or use the help point.
